Valluri Technology Accelerators (VTA), based in Bangalore develop smart decision support systems to support air pollution management. In 2018 VITO teamed up with VTA to set-up a demonstrative decision support platform that would provide air quality data (CAMS-ATMOSYS) for the city of Bangalore in collaboration with Karnataka State Pollution Board. The project was supported and co-financed by the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) whose global data for India was evaluated in the project.
VITO set-up air quality data for Bangalore which was visualized in VTA’s decision support system (Urban Techtonix). The air quality data was modelled using VITO’s urban scale dispersion model. The CAMS Global air quality data was used to provide the background air quality data for the urban model. Open source emissions data for India (source: HTAPv2) was combined with local traffic data to provide the higher resolutions data and maps for Bangalore. The meteorological data required was provided by ECMWF for the duration of the project.
The aim of the project was to use this demonstration application to create awareness of solutions such as the smart CAMS-ATMOSYS air quality analytics solution , that could be used to provide essential air quality information for Indian cities. VTA demonstrated the application to numerous stakeholders in India, at several large industrial and smart city events in the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
