Ghent is the second largest city in Flanders and has about 262,000 inhabitants. In January 2020 the city of Ghent has introduced a low emission zone in the inner city.
The city of Ghent had plans to extend its low emission zone in the coming years. On request of the city, VITO’s air quality experts studied the effects of several extension scenarios on the fleet, emissions, urban air quality and health impact. Both the effects of the current LEZ and those of possible extensions were evaluated and analyzed in this study by VITO together with Transport & Mobility Leuven.
