About
Concawe, the Science Division of the European Fuel Manufacturers Association develops scientific research and technical studies on the industry’s products and operations and their impact, often in association with external research institutes, in order to:
- Develop with scientific rigour pathways to support the achievement of the EU’s health, environmental and climate goals
- Increase the understanding of the impact of the industry and use of the products through advanced scientific research
- Contribute to an informed legislative process and facilitate the industry’s regulatory compliance
- Evaluate and illustrate, the critical role and evolution of the industry in the transition to climate neutrality by 2050 - and beyond.
Air quality is one of Concawe’s key research topics with a particular focus on road vehicle emissions and fuel quality and their respective impact to urban air quality in Europe.
Its members are keen to understand how different vehicles and fuel types contribute to NOx emissions across Europe and learn the effectiveness of measures to curb transport emissions. One example is the implementation of Low Emission Zones (LEZs) in which older, higher polluting vehicles are restricted from entering certain areas.
