After a long covid lockdown of almost four years, VITO experts in air quality modelling returned to China to support LiboVITO in bringing the VITO air quality models to the Chinese market. At present the air quality forecast model OPAQ remains a successful product on the Chinese market with deployments in more than 65 Chinese cities.
Together with the local LiboVITO staff, business opportunities for different clients and with new collaboration partners (CECEP, Tsingyan Group, BJAST…) were explored. These include amongst others local scale air quality modelling to support the design of city scale mitigation strategies and to identify unknown diffuse emission sources. VITO’s air quality modelling team have extensive experience in these topics and thanks to recent technological advancements in their modelling tools are able to provide LiboVITO with market relevant modelling tools to address these new opportunities. We look forward to supporting LiboVITO in adapting and bringing these services to the Chinese market.
During the visit, the option for a renewed cooperation and exchange program with the Chinese National Environmental Monitoring Center (CNEMC) was also discussed as a follow up of a recently signed MoU earlier between VITO and CNEMC. After many fruitful years of cooperation with their air and water quality forecasting department, the exchange program will be extended to include other departments, such as the ambient air quality monitoring and assessment department.
